NEW ORLEANS — Christmas trees are beginning to go up in homes across the country, and while real tree prices remain stable this season, artificial trees are getting more expensive—largely because of federal tariffs.

At A’s Christmas Trees in New Orleans, families spent the weekend after Thanksgiving weaving between rows of pines in search of the perfect holiday centerpiece.

Michael Thriffiley and his family celebrated as they watched him wrestle their chosen tree into a wrap.

“We are a 100% real-tree family,” Thriffiley said. “The important part of the Christmas tree is the smell. I love having that smell resonate throughout the house.”
