U.S. immigration agents said they arrested a Ferris State University professor originally from Sri Lanka who has a criminal history that includes death threats and conviction in a case involving a juvenile.

Sumith Gunasekera was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers on Nov. 12 in Detroit, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a press release.

Gunasekera is an assistant professor of marketing at Ferris State, in Big Rapids, Michigan, according to the university's website. He holds a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka and a Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Nevada.
