It has been a while since either La Salle or North Penn has reached the PIAA football semifinals.

The Explorers last advanced to the round in 2012. For the Knights, it was 2016.

Only one side’s dream of a Class 6A state championship will continue when they meet 1 p.m. Saturday at Central Bucks South.

Winner advances to the PIAA final on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Cumberland Valley’s Chapman Field against either District 3 champ Harrisburg or District 7 champ Pittsburgh Central Catholic, who play 7 p.m. Saturday at Mansion Park in Altoona.

“I know a couple of guys on La Salle – Gavin Sidwar, Joey O’Brien, played football with them growing up,” said North Penn senior Matthew Pownall last Friday after the Knights claimed the District 1 title. “So it’s going to be a fun game.”
