The post-Thanksgiving winter storm making its way through much of Iowa has forced the Festival of Trees & Lights to cancel all activities on Saturday as the region braces for heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions.

In a Friday, Nov. 28, news release, organizers cited advice from the National Weather Service urging people to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary as the reason for the decision. More: Winter storm warning issued for Iowa. How much snow is coming?

The event will remain open Friday, Nov. 28, until 7 p.m. and plans to reopen Sunday, Nov. 30, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Previously purchased tickets can be used during those hours, according to the release.
