The Santa Maria Public Works Department has received a California Office of Traffic Safety grant to support local bicycle and pedestrian safety programs.
The grant program will run through September of next year and will support outreach efforts to promote safe practices for pedestrians and bicyclists. The program will also focus on, and emphasize, drivers’ responsibility to look out for other people using roads and paths.
Director of Public Works Brett Fulgoni said the grant will allow the department to significantly expand local efforts, which will include bicycle training courses focusing on safe riding behaviors.
