A former Republican strategist suggested Friday that a top advisor for President Donald Trump ought to face prosecution for spying and treason.
Steve Witkoff serves as a peace envoy for negotiations related to the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Recently, he has worked closely with the White House on a controversial 28-point peace plan for Ukraine and engaged in friendly dialogue with Russia.
In a leaked call of an October conversation, Witkoff floated to a senior foreign‑policy adviser to Vladimir Putin a peace framework that included territorial concessions such as parts of Donetsk, and coached Russia on how to present a proposal that would appeal to Trump.
Witkoff has faced fierce criticism from both sides of the aisle in recent days, and on Friday, Rick Wilson of the anti-Trump group the Lincoln Project uncorked an eye-popping take.
"In a just world, Steve Witkoff would already be arrested and charged with espionage and treason," he said.
