NEW BERN N.C. (WITN) - This year’s hurricane season is coming to a close without a single one making landfall in the U.S. for the first time in over 10 years.
As hurricane season wraps up, the weather on Friday is calm — a far cry from the storms some locals remember.
Nationally, it’s unusual: 2025 ended with no U.S. landfalls, a rare outcome that hasn’t happened in over a decade. People say they’re grateful — but not completely relaxed.
“It’s definitely good, not a big fan of storm damage to clean up. It just makes me a little nervous for next year,” said Greenville resident Jenn Self.
For New Bern, calm isn’t taken for granted. In 2018, Hurricane Florence brought widespread flooding and long‑lasting damage — and for some families, the memory is still vivid.
