DETROIT — On Friday afternoon at Ford Field the Unity Christian football team fell to Divine Child, 23-22 in the division 4 state championship game. This is the second time in the last four seasons that the Crusaders have finished as the state runner up.
Unity had an early 8-0 lead off a Jared DeVries' touchdown. He had two on the afternoon but the Falcons led 15-8 at the half. Unity retook the lead in the 4th off a Justin Febus touchdown run.
The pivotal play of the game came after DeVries' second touchdown. Head coach Craig Tibee opted to fake the point after try and the Divine Child defense held strong. That 23-22 score would wind up being the final.
The Crusaders had 332 total rushing yards on 66 attempts, led by Lucas Elliott's 115 yards. Unity finishes the season with just two los
