STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A bicycle rider was taken to the hospital after he was hit by a car in Port Richmond on Friday evening, police said.

The bicycle rider was struck by a driver who was making a left turn from Richmond Terrace onto Heberton Avenue shortly after 5 p.m., according to a spokesperson for the NYPD.

The 28-year-old bicyclist was seen lying on the ground and was assisted to the sidewalk by police officers. The driver of the car remained on the scene.

Firefighters arrived and remained with the victim until an EMS ambulance arrived and transported the victim to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton.

Police officers from the 121st Precinct gathered the victim’s belongings and placed his bicycle in the ambulance.
