PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Peoria’s public works department is advising residents to stay home or change their travel plans with forecasts for heavy, accumulating snow.
At 7 p.m. Friday, city crews start working 12-hour, around-the-clock shifts, initially pretreating hills and overpasses with brine, and neighborhood streets with salt.
When snow begins to fall, the work shifts to plowing and salting main arterial routes, which is the city’s top priority during the storm, according to a city news release.
Plowing of residential areas will start after an accumulation of at least two inches of snow and once main routes have been cleared. The city is enforcing its parking ban on emergency snow routes.
