Merrimack Premium Outlets won’t be able to build an apartment complex on mall property after the town denied a request for a zoning exception earlier this month.
Merrimack Zoning Board of Adjustment members on Nov. 19 said the development — which would be on a site not currently zoned for housing — could negatively affect neighboring properties and wasn’t in character with the community, largely due to the potential traffic impact.
The earmarked site was a 130,000-square-foot depression in the northeast corner of the mall property, which was originally going to be home to more outlet stores.
That portion of the site has gone undeveloped since the mall opened in 2012. It’s currently just a parking area for the mall’s snow removal vehicles, according to Morgan Hollis, the attorney repre
