KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The Kearney Police Department is warning its community about a scam reported to the department.
KPD said it received reports that several businesses received calls from someone claiming to be a Kearney police officer. KPD said the caller asked for employee information or told employees they had missed a court date or had a warrant.
KPD said it does not conduct business this way and does not make phone calls about court dates or warrants. The department said the calls are a scam.
KPD recommends asking for the caller’s name and badge number, then hanging up and calling the Kearney Police Department or the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office directly at 308-237-2104. Tell the dispatcher what happened and ask for the specific officer or deputy by name and badge number.
