PLAINS TWP. — Playing through a lot of fouls and some first-game tightness, Holy Redeemer and Wilkes-Barre Area looked pretty even for much of Friday night’s season opener.
Two Wolfpack runs bookending the contest — one early in the first and one late in the fourth — ended up being the difference.
Wilkes-Barre Area played the last six and a half minutes on a 14-1 run to pull away from Holy Redeemer for a 64-50 win in the semifinal round of the Wilkes-Barre Area Tip-off Tournament.
David Jannuzzi led all scorers with 16 points, doing most of his scoring in the second half to help lead the Wolfpack to the finish line.
It was the Wolfpack defense that sparked both big runs, a physical and aggressive defense that had the Royals off-balance and created several turnovers.
