Nikola Pried scored 18 points, leading Vermont past previously unbeaten Hawaii, 73-67, on the first day of the American Savings Rainbow Wahine Showdown at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on Friday.
UH led 34-33 at halftime, but Vermont took control with a 24-13 third quarter and held on down the stretch to improve to 5-2.
The Catamounts led 69-58 with 2:10 left in the game, but UH scored the next seven points, and trailed just 70-67 after Hawaii’s Keiara Curtis made two free throws with 11 seconds left.
Catherine Gilwee made two free throws for Vermont with 10 seconds left, and Emma Haan made one with five seconds left.
The Wahine, led by 16 points from Curtis, fell to 4-1.
