The Mall of America says that more than 14,000 shoppers entered its premises within the first hour of opening on Black Friday.

The biggest day of the year on the retail calendar attracted a big crowd to the Bloomington megamall, with the earliest shoppers lining up at 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and braving sub-zero temperatures overnight to be the first through the door at the North Entrance on Friday morning.

The MOA says that the 14,000 through the doors within the first hour is 8% higher than a year ago.

One person out of the first 200 through the door won a sweepstakes with a $5,000 top prize, while thousands of shoppers received a Mystery Card granting them either a Silver Prize that could be redeemed at mall stores, or a Doorbuster prize valued at up to $600.
