South West survivors share full horror of fatal blizzard tragedy

The survivors of a fatal Chile blizzard in which one of their friends and four other trekkers died have spoken about how their once in a life-time bucket-list trek to Patagonia turned into a horror story.

Hayley Newnham, 41, Tom Player, 39, Matt Smith, 39, Christian Aldridge, 41, and Victoria Bond, 40, decided to go on the adventure of a lifetime and explore the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, which is part of the region known as Patagonia that straddles Chile and Argentina.

For the friends it was the trip of a lifetime, involving trekking from campsite to campsite over eight days among lush green valleys, forested hills, streams and towering glaciers.
