HOUSTON, Texas — A woman tied a small remembrance to a utility pole Friday near the spot where a 7-year-old boy was killed on Thanksgiving morning.
“Experiencing something like that and seeing his little face, it was just hard,” neighbor Ebony Brooks said.
Brooks called 911 after her daughter, August Moore, heard the crash and saw an older pickup truck driver in distress.
“I was just sitting outside and then I heard the bike scraping under the car,” Moore said. “He stopped to see what was under the car, and I don’t think he realized he hit the kid. Then he looked down the street, saw the kid and started screaming, ‘Help! Somebody help, please!’”
Brooks said the driver was overwhelmed.
“He was frantic and kept saying, ‘I didn’t see him, I didn’t see him. I hit a kid — please, somebody
