Dame Esther Rantzen is marking Christmas early with her family this year - just in case she "doesn't make" the actual day. The journalist and campaigner says she continues to surprise herself by reaching significant milestones following her terminal lung cancer diagnosis nearly three years ago.

The grandmother of five has been campaigning to legalise assisted dying since her shocking diagnosis, but delays to the Assisted Dying Bill have meant that earlier this year, Dame Esther, 85, said she believes she won't witness it becoming law during her lifetime.
