Alassane moved to Montreal from West Africa in 2024 with nothing except a glimmer of hope for the future.
He had to move fast due to his situation back home, and Montreal felt like the right spot for the 26-year-old to rebuild his life, find work and make a new social circle.
“So far, I love it here,” he said. “Everyone here has been generous and kind. I like the landscape here, the buildings and the mountains. It’s everything that I hoped it would be.”
He came here as a young, single man, and it’s been difficult making connections when he’s just by himself. He would love to meet someone and eventually start a family, but it’s early days and at this point, he’s concentrating more on trying to build a basic foundation in a new country where he doesn’t have a support system.
