For a mineral to be deemed critical, it must have a threatened supply chain and be economically viable for Canada to produce. Additionally, it should be essential for the nation’s economic or national security, or play a role in the transition to a digital and sustainable economy.

Critical minerals are vital for various technologies, including drones, smartphones, and telecommunications equipment. The Canadian critical minerals strategy aims to bolster advanced manufacturing and sustainable technologies, encompassing clean technologies like semiconductors and permanent magnets. The value chain for these minerals includes exploration, extraction, processing, manufacturing, and recycling.

The Ring of Fire is noted for its potential concentration of precious and special metals. However, a recent editorial from a major media outlet questioned the project's viability, stating that while it is known for its chromite, it is not essential for national security. Despite this skepticism, many experts believe the Ring of Fire will be a focal point for resource development in Canada for years to come.

The company has focused on high-grade titanium and vanadium, along with promising gold discoveries.
