A new Akron Public Schools policy sets the rules on if, when and how a family member of an existing school employee can be hired for a district job.

The new nepotism policy, which the school board unanimously approved on Nov. 25, came after more than a year of review that included discussions during at least 10 committee or board meetings. The policy also was reviewed by two sets of attorneys, human resources directors and school board committees due to leadership changes over the past year.
