MIDDLETOWN – Cornwall’s season ended on Friday night with a 35-7 loss to Rye in the semifinals of the Class A state football playoffs at Faller Field at Middletown High School.
Rye (13-0) led 21-7 at halftime. The Westchester County power beat arguably Section 9’s two best teams in consecutive weeks. Rye put away Minisink Valley 42-14 in the first round of the state playoffs last week.
The Garnets have now outscored opponents 542-219 this season. Rye senior quarterback Carson Miller threw three touchdown passes, including two to his favorite target, Henry Shoemaker, and rushed for another.
Cornwall (9-3) entered the game allowing just under 10 points per game. The Green Dragons defeated Niskayuna 34-28 in the first round of the Class A state playoffs. Cornwall is once again expected to
