CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Post Office began accepting parcels larger than envelopes in 1913.

Think how far we’ve come: Now we’re having multiple companies ship packages from clearinghouses all over, sometimes arriving just a day later.

We’re in the busiest time of the year for the U.S. Postal Service. So if you are wrapping, packing, labeling and mailing packages, we offer our annual tips and deadlines to know.

If you have ever heard Benjamin Franklin’s famous axiom that if you fail to prepare, you’re preparing to fail, consider those words to live by about going to the Post Office. If you don’t go early you run the risk of long lines and your packages not arriving by Christmas.

“We just encourage them to get their mail in early,” USPS spokeswoman Naddia Dhalai told cleveland.com.
