Donald Trump issued a press conference as he thanked service members following the National Guard shooting. The shooting prompted Trump's administration to announce it is halting all asylum decisions until they could ensure everyone is "vetted and screened to the maximum degree possible".

The announcement was shared after charges against the man accused of shooting two National Guard members were upgraded to first-degree murder after one of the soldiers died. A reporter questioned him on the decision and stated that the suspect had worked closely with the CIA in Afghanistan for years, adding that he was "vetted", which had come up "clean".
