President Donald Trump has said that the airspace above and around Venezuela is to be "closed in its entirety.”

"To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

It comes amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela in recent months. More than a dozen U.S. warships and 15,000 troops have been amassed in the Caribbean as part of "Operation Southern Spear."

U.S. troops have also carried out at least 21 strikes on alleged drug boats since September, killing at least 83 people, according to Reuters.
