Loss of cobbler shop
It appears another business has succumbed to landlord greed, but let the record show this was not just a business. In this little "hole in the wall" establishment, they served up tradition with the belief of repair, reuse, don't buy new when you can renew. Walking in the door to Clardy's Cobbler Shoppe was walking through a time portal, greeted with the rich aroma of leather, the visual delight of purses and shoes reborn awaiting new owners, and the dog on the couch.
It was not just a business, it was heart, soul and logic that we don't just toss and buy new, as has become the American way of life. The prices were reasonable and the craftsmanship excellent, as my 40-year-old barn boots can testify. People seeking repair were not just customers, as was evidenced when
