SAN DIEGO, California — A 64-year-old woman from San Diego has confessed in federal court to concealing her father-in-law's death to unlawfully collect more than $175,000 in retirement benefits, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Josephine Guinauli Aquino admitted that after her father-in-law's death in 2019, she continued to receive his retirement benefits from the Defense Finance Accounting Service and the Social Security Administration, knowing they would cease if the government was informed of his passing. Aquino concealed his death, which occurred in the Philippines, and continued to forge checks and deposit pension payments into his account until October 2025.
