Investigators are piecing together the events that led up to a crash, a fight, a shooting, and a person being hit and killed by a vehicle on Friday night on a Phoenix roadway, according to authorities.

The Phoenix Police Department said the incident began when riders crashed into each other near 7th Avenue and I-17 just before 11 p.m. After the crash, the two men got into a fight.

Shots were fired during the fight, and one of the men was hit by gunfire, police said.

Police said the man who fired a shot was hit by a vehicle.

The shooting victim and the man hit by the vehicle were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The man hit by the vehicle did not survive.

The vehicle and driver were found nearby and the driver was detained.
