LONGVIEW — Whether as a private-public partnership to enhance downtown Longview or as a flexible windfall to the city’s bottom line, Longview city staff are preparing public meetings exploring ways to better take advantage of an underused downtown parking lot.

The city of Longview is in the early stages of gathering and considering ideas for either selling or redeveloping what’s currently known as the Schneider lot, a 1.9-acre parking lot at the corner of 12th Avenue and Hemlock Street that the city has owned since 1972.

Toward that effort, the city is preparing at least one public meeting to be held in January with the goal of gathering feedback from residents and businesses downtown, according to a recent email from Nick Little, the city’s community development director.
