The new West Gate expansion at Charleston International has gone vertical, rising above the tarmac as the first set of beams started going in the week of Nov. 17.
CHS officials said they expect the project to move along as quickly as the nearby new parking garage,
South Carolina's busiest airport broke ground on the $100 million gate expansion in July to handle higher traffic volume and double the number of international destinations it offers.
The four-gate terminal will extend out of the B2 concourse for now. A dedicated international gate and boarding area will allow the airport to handle larger aircraft without disrupting neighboring gates.
