Fresno police will conduct DUI patrols Saturday night, looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence, the department announced.

Officers will be out from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. Police said impaired driving includes more than alcohol; certain prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as marijuana, can affect a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely.

A first-time DUI conviction can cost drivers an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and result in a suspended license.

Funding for the patrols comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
