AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - An inmate’s death at the Aiken County Detention Center has prompted an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

A detention officer discovered the unresponsive inmate during a routine cell check, according to a news release from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

3 juvenile suspects arrested in armed robbery at local gas station

Three juvenile suspects were arrested Thursday after an armed robbery at an Augusta convenience store, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Detention officers and onsite medical staff performed life-saving measures while Aiken County EMS was notified.

SLED has been called in to conduct an investigation, which the sheriff’s office said is typical procedure.
