Millions of electric car owners will be charged an extra tax to drive their vehicles abroad on holiday under Rachel Reeves' new pay-per-mile EV plan. The Treasury has confirmed that mileage clocked up by UK cars overseas will "fall into the scope of the new Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) fee".
It means the Government will be able to generate revenue on mileage outside of the country, meaning some road users could pay twice for trips. EV owners will need to pay the £ 3 per mile charge for their EVs abroad, in addition to local and domestic tax charges in the country they are travelling in.
