People march through the streets of Newcastle to mark the International Day to End Violence Against Women

The Reclaim the Night march that was set to take place in Newcastle this evening has been postponed due to the torrential downpours. Women and girls were set to take to the streets for the annual protest against male violence.

The postponement comes following advice from Northumbria Police . A new date for the march is yet to be confirmed.

The march is held every year as part of the global movement, and the rally was expected to bring hundreds together in the fight against misogyny. Organisers said this year’s event was particularly important at a time when some groups are attempting to place blame on migrants and Muslim communities.
