CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — 51-year-old Clarksburg resident John Robert Wade Carter is accused of striking his 81-year-old father in the face, grabbing the elder man's testicles and twisting, and elbowing him in the back where had back surgery.

West Virginia State Police Tfc. Devon Goodman has charged Carter with one count of elder abuse causing injury. And because Carter has a 2003 conviction for felony wanton endangerment — and there were five guns in the home when Goodman and Senior Trooper Isaiah Harmon responded — Goodman also charged Carter with five counts of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

Carter pleaded not guilty before Harrison Magistrate Kimberly Wygal and is presumed innocent. Wygal set a $75,000 10/90 bond and ordered Carter to have no contact, direct or indir
