A brand new Scandinavian bakery has been so busy on its opening day that it's ran out of pastries. Midsommar Bakery opened up in Newcastle’s historic Grainger Market on Saturday, and it's already been a hit with customers.

Baker and musician Nathalie Stern, who was born and raised in Västerås, Sweden, and her partner Ben Dickenson, a Newcastle native and creative entrepreneur, are behind the business and have been selling Swedish treats at pop-up markets for some time. Midsommar Bakery is now their base with the aim of introducing fika to the North East.

Nathalie told how their side-hustle grew into a local market favourite, regularly selling out at pop-ups while also supplying cafés across the city. Growing demand and support inspired the couple to launch their first permanent shop
