NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Newport News police responded to a shooting inside a store at Patrick Henry Mall that left one man dead Saturday, authorities said.
Officers arrived around 10:50 a.m. and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.
Police said a suspect has been detained. The incident appears to be isolated, stemming from an altercation between two men. Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Patrick Henry Mall was closed for the remainder of the day as investigators processed the scene. The shooting is under investigation.
