As Montrealers settle into their weekend routines, the city is bracing for a mass demonstration by a legion of labour organizations and community groups denouncing what they describe as the Legault government’s turn to the right.
The march, called “In the Streets for Quebec,” is scheduled for around 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon in downtown Montreal.
Organizers have described it as one of the largest public mobilizations against the government since Premier François Legault took office.
Who is protesting
Behind the march are nine labour organizations. These include the FTQ, CSN, CSQ, CSD, FIQ, FAE, APTS, SPGQ and the SFPQ.
Collectively, they represent hundreds of thousands of workers across Quebec, though it remains to be seen how many turn up Saturday.
