BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — While Black Friday offers plenty of discounts and deals at major chain stores, the day after brings a unique opportunity for people to find savings and support locally owned stores in their community.
Several shops in Upshur County offered special deals and discounts for Small Business Saturday. Cars were lined up on Buckhannon's Main Street as shoppers supported the local businesses.
At the Volume Bookshop and Studio, the store held extended hours, staying open until 7 p.m. to give customers more time to explore their collection of books, DVDs and vinyl records.
Co-owners Nicki Bentley-Colthart and Spike Nesmith have enjoyed steady business since opening their doors at the beginning of November after taking over from the previous store, Argo Books.
