Residents in a clutch of Montreal suburbs were advised on Friday to change passwords, especially if one is used for multiple accounts, and keep an eye on suspicious activity after a cyberattack struck a Quebec-based security company, potentially exposing some user credentials.
The breach hit CodeRED, the automated notification service operated by Crisis24, which itself is a division of Montreal-based GardaWorld. The service, commonly used in local governments across North America, allows residents to enter phone numbers or create accounts to receive notifications during major events like fires, floods, or other emergencies.
