November 29, 1918 - Influenza wreaked havoc and killed thousands in Nebraska in 1918.

The flu took hold in the state in October 1918 which lead to statewide closings of schools, churches and anywhere else people congregate.

Valentine was one of the last to lift bans on public gathering and finally did so on Nov. 29, 1918. Despite this, there was almost no Christmas season in 1918.
