Alpine speed skier Lauren Macuga will miss the rest of the 2025-26 ski season due to a right knee injury suffered Friday.
She was training for the giant slalom in advance of the World Cup stop in Copper Mountain, Colo., and injured the knee in a crash. A native of Park City, Utah, Macuga required surgery and won’t have an opportunity to represent the U.S. at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
“RIP, acl, see you all next year,” Macuga, 23, posted to Instagram.
Macuga was considered a medal hopeful for the Olympics, especially in the speed races of the Super G and downhill. She won her first World Cup race in January in the Super G in St. Anton, was second in the downhill at Kvitfjell, and took bronze in the Super G at the 2025 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships in Saalbach, Austria.
