MANSFIELD, Ohio — A father and his 9-year-old son were found with gunshot wounds inside a Mansfield home Saturday afternoon in what police believe was a murder-suicide.

Officers responded to the 900 block of Woodville Road around 12:06 p.m. after receiving a report of two people injured. When they arrived, they found a 40-year-old man and his son inside the residence, according to the Mansfield Division of Police.

The child was taken to OhioHealth hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The father was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the circumstances point to a murder-suicide, but detectives and the Richland County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate. Authorities have not released the names of the deceased at this time.
