What began as a routine delivery at an Atlantic County farm turned into a three-day search for two runaway cows.
The incident at Little Rascals Farm Stand in Egg Harbor Township happened on Wednesday, Nov. 25, when the cows arrived at the property on Asbury Road.
“The white cow went straight through the electric fence and the brown one followed,” the farm said in a Facebook post. Both animals disappeared into the surrounding area.
By 6:30 p.m., the cows had been spotted twice. “They were located, went over a down fence and ran. Then located again and crossed the creek near the new map location… and we couldn’t get to them before it got dark,” the farm said. A neighbor named Brian used a drone to help track them, and Frosti Acres Farm assisted.
On Thanksgiving Day, the drone detected two thermal signatures, and searchers found signs the cows had been nearby. “We left hay and feed in the hope this will bring them out,” the farm wrote. The owners said the cows were stuck in the wooded area between two sections of Ballmor Golf Course. They feared the smaller cow was weakening: “The little one may not make it much longer… She wasn’t looking so great yesterday.”
By Friday morning, a trail camera showed the cows coming out of the golf course the same way they went in. Searchers and local residents were asked to keep watch near Pine and Asbury.
At 12:10 p.m. Friday, the chase finally ended.
“The girls are safe and back from their round of golf!” the farm announced. “A huge, thanks to the community for getting the word out and trying to keep eyes on them. A massive thank you to our neighbors who worked relentlessly to help find and capture. Bill, Ron and Colby are true masters in what they do.”
According to its website, Little Rascals is a boutique farm specializing in coturnix quail, chicken and baked goods. Its mission is to provide fresh, ethically raised birds, eggs and delicious baked goods.
