ALLIANCE — Mount Union's quest for a 14th NCAA Division III football national championship is off to a successful start.
Quarterback Mikey Maloney had a hand in six of the Purple Raiders' seven touchdowns as they beat Muhlenberg 49-7 in a second round playoff game today at Larry Kehres Stadium.
Maloney finished 22 of 24 for 302 yards and three touchdowns in his first playoff start. He also ran for three TDs.
Davion Grant caught eight passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns for Mount Union. Darnell Williams added 130 yards rushing.
The Purple Raiders, who received a first round bye after going 10-0 and winning their 36th Ohio Athletic Conference title , will host old conference rival John Carroll in the third round next Saturday. The Blue Streaks beat Randolph Macon 34-6 today.
