The Bryan County Sheriff’s office is investigating a shooting incident that happened on Thanksgiving Day at the Zip-In convenience store on Black Creek Church Road in Ellabell.
According to a press release, two adult male individuals became involved in an altercation in the parking lot, during which time both subjects produced firearms and exchanged gunfire. An off-duty Effingham County Sheriff’s deputy was present, identified himself as law enforcement and drew his weapon.
One of the armed individuals turned his gun towards the deputy, who shot the individual at least once in the leg. Both men then fled the scene on foot, but later one of the individuals was located at a residence in the 400 block of Ellabell. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has been released.
