Large crowds gathered this evening at a Woolton pub to celebrate the area's unofficial Christmas light switch on event. Several hundred people were in attendance from 4pm to watch as firework displays lit up the sky and market stalls were set up to usher in the festive season.

The Elephant , located on Woolton Street, has been welcoming guests since it first opened as a public house in 1934. The annual Christmas light switch on is free to attend and has become a staple of the Woolton community's calendar.
