William Jenkins, who twice served as LSU president including during a crucial transition period in 2012, has died at 88.

In addition to being a longstanding leader of both the Baton Rouge campus and the larger LSU system, Jenkins was an academic who served as the dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine and co-authored more than 60 scientific articles.

A Saturday social media post from LSU announced Jenkins' death, describing him as a "consummate Tiger, a visionary leader and a beloved member of the LSU family whose life and career shaped our university for decades."
