Several horses and a donkey rescued from a severe animal cruelty case in Walker County earlier this year are now thriving at TMMA Farms and Sanctuary , where staff say the animals have made remarkable progress since arriving malnourished and dehydrated.

TMMA Farms owner Maryann Marsh said the animals were “on death’s door” when they were brought to the sanctuary in June. Months later, they have regained strength, weight and energy. Close

“We have put over 800 pounds apiece on these animals, and now they lead their life with us here at the sanctuary,” Marsh said.

Marsh said the recovery process included regular veterinary visits, proper vitamins and minerals, and plenty of alfalfa — a favorite among the rescued animals.
