It's a very famous event in the North East which has people flocking from miles around to see it in Newcastle and now a Christmas lights switch, which features over a million lights, has been championed as one of the best in the country. And it's thanks to photos of it being shared in a group called Beautiful Britain on Facebook.

Over the last few weeks, switches have been flicked all over the region, from Newcastle city centre to Sunderland and Ouseburn yo Morpeth, with the Northumberland town's switch on coinciding with the big reveal of Rutherford department store's festive window display . And another occasion that drew a big crowd was the switch on at Daft as Brush.
